Vulcan philosophy revolves around the concept of logic.

A Vulcan's moral goal is to abandon all emotion and become a purely logical being. This is attained through meditation and discipline.

Linux XP 2005 - Is Real

Ever since Linux has become a viable option to use on desktop computers, all sorts of attempts have been made to emulate the look and feel of the ubiquitous Windows desktop. One of the more recent efforts in this respect comes from a Russian project called Linux XP.

Monsterz of Transylvania
atika got some pictures from this rock festival
Yah the first one is me :P

Taine sang very well (artis looks a little like Jim Morrison) , I was impressed also by the hungarians (Tuzmadar) , ehh Northen Lights were so-so (I didn't expected much from turkish band) but they have a funny name (for an Euro-Asian country )
What i liked : before they actually started playing the man at keyboard sang intro from "Imperial March" -Star Wars that was really cool
Yah they looked strange for us , yah and the voice ...well artist sang like me when i'm good of nothing :average (and i do know when i stink at singing) . Guitarist looked good ,didn't impressed me .
Iron Mask - had the best guitarist from bands that performed in that night .
Incredible (Yah i liked how fast and good it was ) I liked the solo and some neo-classic style of him, Minus-es the vocalist it looked
bald like me :P and fat (at least i'm slim)
I liked the idea to be on stage with gloves
(Maybe is the kid in me)
The turkish vocalist was near me when guitarist from Iron Mask performed his
solo , Maybe they learn-ed something :)
Let's go to the Lame rock:Phantom-X : If I ever reach on stage i don't wan't to look
like them (blonde hair and silk ...etc) I wan't to be rough plain and simple
Tough i liked the idea of metal claws :P and guitarist's red ligt on the chest
(X-mass tree)
Intro was good , and i liked when guitarist went off stage , Maybe in future i will
buy one with radio transmitter (You are quite free with it).
And the Last band Anvil -They were impressive and did an great show - I liked the
vocalist (He was really funny and that matters in an show) Bass guitar player was very good (he made a little show) He looks like me when i cut my hair (zero).
Vocalist is a little crazy but is good and when he went with his guitar in the
back of stage and performed "Jimi-Hendrix" effect that kicked a-s-s , What was missing was to burn his guitar :)
Over all: even if they were 2-300 ppl , artist did their job very well and at
least it was like an private party for us :P
My revelation :Taine and I think Gothic + hungarians were very very good
and yes the guitarist from Iron Mask (10+)
Northen lights gave me an CD (Girl that filmed them) and i think we should applaude
them - Yah they do have a lot to learn - But in an age when every one listen
to crapp music (turkish + romanian mahnele) they try to wake up us and they did it for us
Thank You All
ps:Maybe they should move the rock festival in summer and with
more sponsors (free entry) and more media noise (not only

microsoft is dead
Cringely said so
"Microsoft's core businesses are slowing down. Google could become a major threat to Microsoft. What harm could Google cause Microsoft? Microsoft's greatest business vulnerability is Office. If a competitive product (or service) hit the market it could further dilute Microsoft's earnings since they'd have to lower Office prices to compete. Another great threat is Google could become an organizing influence in the Open Source world. They could guide the Open Source community and it could become a greater threat to Microsoft."

They have some good tabs there (metallica, black sabbath)
guide from mxtabs

Friday, October 28, 2005

One day one colleague told me about mixing
"get on top" and "fade to black" from metallica (seems that both had same rhythm)
Don't know who sang "get on top" , Just google it :)
I think is Red Hot Chili Peppers but not so sure about it.
Sound of both melodies was good (run them in the same time)

VMX,or cell coprocessor for AMD cpus ?
It could be something like that (make sense from one point of view)

Source arstechica

"Ultimately, a new set of ISA extensions with a flashy name and a special logo program are going to be just one marketing weapon among many in the next phase of the war with Intel. AMD has established itself as the current CPU vendor of choice for tech savvy gamers, and a set of 3D-oriented ISA extensions that have some level of game studio support will help them reinforce that image in the face of Conroe."

"Breezy is now out and everybody has celebrated its release. You have, haven't you? Before we all start our now journey to an unknown destination, we need to clean up a bit all the dust everywhere. And the place with the most dust is probably our bug tracking systems. So we shall have a Bug Day.

The Hug Day. This is a very special Bug Day: on Hug Day, when someone closes a bug, then someone else should hug him/her. Why? This is a very special way for us to tell everyone that we love contributions! And triaging bugs is a really big contribution."

"How many is a brazillion?"

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He
concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."
"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!" His staff sits
stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the
President sits, head in hands. Finally, the President looks up and
asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

chapter 10: Name Control

Yah i read that now (Thinking in C++, 2nd ed. Volume 1)

Removing in situ (in place) functions

"All definitions should be placed outside the class to keep the interface clean. If you want to optimize, use the inline keyword." What should i say ?: i agree with his POV , You can look at class and see in one shot it's functions - simple for eye

Feeling like thouse dogs who run after tail in circle.

I renew a ssl certificate and is the 10-th time i do it to get it right (organization field , unit) ,In a way i understand to identify with organization docs otherwise some phishers could buy trusted ssl certs and create some fake shops(See thouse ebay scams/spam) in another way i'm sick loosing time and even now i'm not shure

"Verifying the identity of your organization... If Starfield is unable to authenticate your organization based on the currently submitted information you will receive an e-mail notification prompting you to provide the necessary documentation via e-mail or fax."

Inlines & the compiler

"To understand when inlining is effective, it’s helpful to know what the compiler does when it encounters an inline."

almost at the end of chapter 9 ;)

"But for desktop software, or applications shared with other [DARK] forces, it makes sense for us to use Microsoft"

Yah Police story , or ms pr

I wonder if someone counts the beans spent on ms tax ...

you've now successfully flashed your new firmware your Microsoft device is now running Linux

Check this out : microsoft's router ! (done by asus in china) flashed with linux

"You've all heard of hacking the Linksys WRT54G routers. But what about some other routers. I thought I'd try my luck with a router some consider to be one of the worst on the market the Microsoft MN-700. This router runs a version of Windows CE by default but we'll see if we can change that."

_ Joi Ito installs Ubuntu on a ThinkPad:

"I bought a discounted IBM T42 ThinkPad and installed Ubuntu on it. I decided that I would try to get switched over to Linux (for now) before I headed off to OSCON later this week. It was amazingly easy to install and wifi, suspend and various hardware goodies seem to work. I still haven’t gotten my printer set up or my DVDs to play… Anyway, we’ll see if I’ll be able to make this trip without bringing my PowerBook."

They cloned MIPS instruction set and worked well untill MIPS Inc. sued them

"I worked for Lexra, a scrappy CPU company, now out of business. The Lexra story is an interesting one, filled with lessons about the business of selling microprocessors and semiconductor intellectual property. I have recently searched the web and found many incorrect statements about Lexra. With this document, I hope to set the record straight."

64 bit mips cpu's from china - godson is back

I saw on linuxdevices that blxcpu firm works with AMD on some MIPS boards

In-Stat studied the Godson architecture and the Godson-2 processor and concluded that China is capable of designing world-class microprocessors !

The Godson architecture closely resembles the MIPS architecture from MIPS Technologies Inc. and is about 95 percent MIPS-compatible. In particular the Godson-2 processor is similar to the MIPS R10000, introduced in 1995

Free GPL-ed Beer

A group of students at IT University of Copenhagen have produced what they claim is the first open-source beer.

Now that is something useful ;)

Spoted the news on ibm's blogspot
my firefoxie is not dead , it crashed after ubuntu "sekrity" updates
Maybe is the google extension ...don't know yet ...
I tried to delete them from extension dir , Yah not so simple.
Until is solved i will use epiphany
That is Faast!
Update : is an known bug , so i downgrated to previous version

InteLLi crap (hardware error)

Wondering why you get "APIC error on CPU0" ?
Wonder no more here is the answer

>What does this kernel message mean?
>Apr 5 23:16:20 lfs kernel: APIC error on CPU0: 60(60)
>Apr 5 23:16:31 lfs kernel: APIC error on CPU0: 60(60)
>kernel is 2.6.5 with reiser4 patch.

Send Illegal Vector and Receive Illegal Vector at the same time.
This is more interesting than the usual 40(40) errors
(just Receive Illegal Vector), since 60 implies that the
CPU itself is the source of the bogus vector, whereas 40
usually implies a crap mainboard.

My guess is that either your hardware (whatever it is,
you didn't leave any clues) has problems with a noisy
APIC bus, broken chipset, or something like that, or
you enabled ACPI and the ACPI tables are crap.

59 bucks for Centrino sticker - same notebook

David: I want to know why I should pay $59 more to get the Centrino version of the same notebook.

David: It has the same processor.

David: And the same chipset.

David: only the radio is different.

Story is in David's blog

Unobtanium mistake no.1 :Poor Assembly language design

it's an black box (proprietary design) only for compiler "elite",
One day or another you have too see the assembly source code,
Real man do know assembly language ,even if they don't program
in it .

"IA64 assembly was never meant to be written by a human. It is a processor design driven by compiler research."

If you don't believe me , read intella's itanic manuals

need to know three things about the Itanium to pretty much automatically rule it out

1) Heat (and the related, power consumption). Not a joke, not a rumor. The Itanium makes the Prescott core look cool and energy-efficient by comparison.

2) Not designed to run the software in use by 99.5% of the PC market. Great for a custom supercomputer, okay for some servers, complete shit for normal desktop use.

3) Price. They hope to make it competitive by 2007? How long has it existed now, at 3-10x the price of the highest end x86 CPU? And someone actually needs to ask why it hasn't hit mainstream use yet?

This was post-ed on slahshdot

sis76x is slow - netcraft confirms it
well i knew something is wrong with this chipset (video and ide controller)
When playing movies , the stream is not real time and smooth as it should
and here is why :
"76x - if used with shared memory only - is not really usable in dual head configurations; even in single-head operation, some features are limited. This especially affects video overlay support (Xv): Although the SiS76x supports two video overlays, these are in most cases not usable: Heavy flicker in the video and the graphics may occure as a result of exceeding the available memory bandwidth."

Update: I added 512M of ram and now system is way faster, I will try some benchmarks soon

STOP Software Patents in Europe - last day call

How you can help

If you cannot attend the demonstation in Strasbourg in person please phone or fax your member of the European Parliament (MEP). Or better yet discuss the situation with others you work with and send a company FAX to show them how this new legislation will hurt your business if the Buzek-Rocard-Duff amendments are not adopted by parlement on Wednesday. If you don't inform your parliament, mega-corporations are doing the job for you: "The European Parliament is filled with lobbyists of Microsoft, Eicta, CompTIA and so on. There are 30 to 40 lobbyists permanently roaming the halls."

firebird on power status

I have this message from the log

upibm3 Mon Jul 4 10:54:12 2005

Database: /home/mariuz/firebird20/firebird2/gen/empty.fdb

internal gds software consistency check (Internal error code (179), file: sqz.cpp line: 232)

and when i looked for that line

msg 179 decompression overran buffer

Crypto leaks across HyperThreaded CPUs (i386, P4, HTT+SMP only)

The Pentium CPU shares caches between HyperThreads. This permits a local
process to gain a side-channel against cryptographic processes running
on the other HyperThread. Testing for cached data can be accomplished by
timing reads. Under some circumstances, this permits the spying process
to extract bits of the key. This has been demonstrated against OpenSSL.

Technical Details

The full explanation of the issue can be found here:

This issue affects only a subset of i386 systems.

Your system is not affected if you are running a CPU without HyperThreading.

Your system is not affected if you are running a non-SMP kernel.

Your system is not affected if you have disabled HyperThreading in your
BIOS, and confirmed that the virtual CPUs are not detected by the kernel
during boot.

Your system is affected, but probably not at risk, if you do not permit
shell access by untrusted users.

Additional resources:

Solutions and Workarounds

This issue is fundamental to the design and implementation of
HyperThreading in Intel processors. Avoiding the problem is possible,
and two workarounds are available now. Others which may appear later are
also discussed.

Option 1. Disable HyperThreading in the BIOS.

Disabling HyperThreading is a complete workaround for the issue.

Option 2. Run a non-SMP kernel.

On single physical CPU systems, running a non-SMP kernel
effectively disables HyperThreading. On a multi-CPU system, this
option is not the best solution, since it will disable
additional physical CPUs as well.

Omega CPU - Alpha like clone was approved

Hi Marius Popa Adrian,

This is automated message from site.

Your request for project 'Omega CPU - Alpha like clone' was approved.

Alpha in a FPGA - omega project created
In response to this osnews post

well you can try asking intel legal department
about alpha instruction set,
From what i know is open , Yep you could walk on gray legal area (towards black)
Nobody stops me to create an open core project
Let's call it OmegaCPU for start

Omega CPU - Alpha like clone
Implement Alpha cpu instruction set

It will be based on open risc core (64bit version)
First steps will be building full emulator
then working on hardware part

"Create project result:

Yah is true i like to scream/sing but don't give me a guitar You will run
While jumping i had this "enlightenment" : what the hack we are doing
with our lives : working , working , working and no fun
Maybe i should try to sing more and more - that's my happiness.
Let people see what is inside of me : sometimes rage , somedays furry and
one or few days/year harmony
People don't know me - I'm crazy enough to jump on stage and to sing
I did it once , i did it twice (before i went to high scool)
Who knows maybe i'm good at music and i'm still blind to really see it.

Max-Pod - mobile music

What intella will do with non-working wimax business ?

I mean who reads the email while going in the park with the bike or running , When going to eat somewhere do you download pr0n ? Nahh . Wireless network is useless

Only for one thing : music , movies ,

I could listen to an internet radio while biking ( swimming ??)

or running .

I could watch some movies while going with train (12 hours or something)

So apple is good on selling thouse gizmos called ipods ,add Intel's wimax and some music = fun (remeber thouse mmx dancing monkeys...err intel employees? I think they will be back ;))

ps: intella is working with nokie for wimax enabled phones/gizmos

No one wants an 2.4Kg brick in his bag/back ,I just want some gizmos : ipod, iphone ,zaurus+wimax , nokie +ogg player ... That is my whish list ;)

Why Dell will use AMD chips

Now Dell have an evil brother (called apple)

and both of them compete on the high end area

"We are competing for those customers along with companies like HP, Sony, Apple, Alienware and those customers that basically build their own systems."

Don't know how this will end for DELL , i assume AMD

will embrace them with hands open , 50x15 is near

(amd want's 50% of market in 2015)

Amd is building fabs like mad: FishKill (with ibm) , Dresden (2 fabs in one)
What kept dell from using opterons, altlon64 is called Intell and something
green (not the aliens) , got nothing to do with production.
I laugh at apple when they speak like: ibm can't do cpu's
Sorry apple if ibm can't do cpus (sony , microsoft, toshiba, nvidia , amd , via can confirm this) then who does ?
Name one firm that is selling 64 bit mobile cpus Now and is helped by
ibm . Hint: acer is selling some of thouse laptops with ferrari logo.

Update:oh wait now they have another testing/research fab in Dresden
at computex it was spoted an dual core amd64 portable
Upadate:amd/ibm does have another fab in singapore with Chartered
An vague impression that many Cells /DC athlons will be born there in '06

Why apple dissapointed people - one word: the cell
People were expecting something ground breaking like
mac-os-x on cell ...
When all the rumors were true .... and little younglings cut

Now they are like dell , you can tell is not bad (centrino , intel brand ...)
Apple doesn't think different anymore - the sad part

ps: no more apple related posts (enough spam)
back to firebird/linux/cell

intel+apple = iphone

hmm , so seems to be

intel needed an design house for their [ coh coh ...mcrappy] phones , apple left desktop/home space for others (linux,ms) , they need to sell DRM-ed music/movies on the phone/ipod/media center (control your crappy iLife)

They meet and ...i can only speculate

"The company can count some high-volume customers for its applications chip. But its baseband chip--the core communications center of a cell phone--had been a flop.

Intel, which did not disclose the maker of the new phone, also said its new baseband chip code-named Hermon--which operates on third-generation cellular networks--is still on track to be introduced in the second half of the year. "

why apple doesn't matter for ibm

sony shiped 90 millions of ps2 consoles as of June 2005

On cell developers will have compiler optimizations like autovectorisation and other ...

I think it's easier for me to think cell

Vectorial code (simd) aka symphony is arranged by compiler (composer) at another time

The Cell Processor Programming Model

A paper will be presented by Arnd Bergmann in 22-25 June at LinuxTag 2005

"Porting Linux to run on Cells PowerPC core is a relatively easy task because of the similarities to existing platforms like IBM pSeries or Apple Power Macintosh, but does not give access to the enormous computing power of the SPUs.

Only the kernel is able to directly communicate with an SPU and therefore needs to abstract the hardware interface into system calls or device drivers. The most important functions of the user interface including loading a program binary into an SPU, transferring memory between an SPU program and a Linux user space application and synchronizing the execution. Other challenges are the integration of SPU program execution into existing tools like gdb or oprofile.

A model has been proposed to provide an interface that attempts to integrate well into the existing set of Linux system calls and enable software authors to easily integrate the use of SPUs into their own libraries and applications."
